Google & Oracle’s legal Battle over Java API in Android OS

On a personal note, I feel Tech giants such as Google, and Oracle should never have parallel difference in opinions especially for the fact that these two have contributed immensely to the advancement of Computer Science.

For the second time, on the 26th of May, 2016, at about 4pm local time, a jury in California’s Northern District Federal Court ruled in favour of Google’s application of copyright- protected code utilized in Android was fair use, distancing from any blame. Oracle claimed that 37 Java API was wrongfully used in the Android Operating System.

In 2014, Oracle had a similar legal battle which ended in favor of Google. Google’s  defense was hinged on Sun Microsystem’s open source approach towards the use and application of Java.

This is definitely one of the most remarkable legal decisions concerning open source technology. After-all, Albert Einstein, Michael Faraday and several faceless, countless individuals all made spectacular open source innovations that today is benefiting the whole world. Even the giant Microsoft acknowledges and benefits form open source. Knowledge they say is continuous.

Everyone knows that Open source has benefited humanity over the years and will yet do in much of the future to come.
