Touch Screens & Haptic Technologies


Haptics has been studied for decades. It is simply the science and philosophy of the sense of touch. Its also of worthy note that it is paralleled with computer automation. Its technology is drawn from jellyfish and worms sophisticated touch responses. Naturally, the Human hand (rich with receptors and nerves) has 27 bones 40 muscles, 22 joints and 22 degrees of freedom.

Machines and Robots have been developed in line with the above facts. In addition, Artificial Intelligence lab in MIT made a device that can feel a computer generated object. Do note that physical hand feedback is based on kinaesthetic & Tactile moves.

  3. Carnegie Mellion University. They made an interface that uses a powerful electromagnetic force to imitate a handle like a joystick immersed in a virtual environment. Its major feature is it’s not linked to physical connection of cables or sorts.
